There are other shark diving hotspots around the world but none that rival Tiger Beach.
If you want to dive with enormous Tiger Sharks, scores of big ‘friendly’ lemon sharks, plus lots of Caribbean reef sharks, bull sharks, nurse sharks and sometimes one or two great hammerhead sharks, you will love diving at Tiger Beach where the action is nonstop, all day, everyday.
The only problem with Tiger Beach will be finding other trips that will live up to it!
Imagine this shark dive
You are kneeling on the sand right next to the shark handler while tiger and lemon sharks circle expectantly. A huge tiger swims so close to your camera that it barely fits in your view finder. It’s bulk blots out the sun. You compose each shot, firing repeatedly until it’s head is so close that it no longer fits in your fisheye lens. Eventually, its shadow moves past you and your heart begins to slow down as the adrenalin dissipates in your blood stream. You quickly thumb through your shots, thrilled at the results until you catch sight of the next enormous tiger shark approaching. That’s a pretty standard dive and Tiger Beach 🙂

WHY COME TO TIGER BEACH WITH BIG FISH EXPEDITIONS
We go at the perfect time of year
We always visit Tiger Beach in April because it falls after the winter storm season but long before hurricane season in the Bahamas. That means we get less windy days. On winter trips, its not unusual to lose multiple days to winter storms. April is also perfect for the amount of sharks you are likely to see. If you go later in the summer, the largest sharks head into deeper water because the shallows become uncomfortably warm.
We charter the Dolphin Dream
Big Fish Expeditions always charters the Dolphin Dream for our liveaboard trips to Tiger Beach. The DD is the largest, most stable, and by far the most comfortable liveaboard dive vessel that visits the area.
Unlike day boats that leave from Grand Bahama Island, the Dolphin Dream stays at Tiger Beach all day and all night. This means you will get around twice as much time in the water each day compared to the boats that spend many hours commuting back and forth to shore. When the dive day is over, we get to photograph ‘lemon-snaps’ from the swim step each evening, and even conduct one or two night dives with the sharks.
The Dolphin Dream owner – Captain Scott Smith – was the original operator that pioneered the shark diving at Tiger Beach. No other captain has more experience or more trips to Tiger Beach.
The Dolphin Dream has a very large swim step that is perfect for capturing split shots of tiger and lemon sharks at the surface (lemon snaps). The crew have years of experience in getting you ‘the shot’.
Our Trip Leaders are Professional Photographers
Although not officially a photography workshop, our trip leader will be happy to share photography tips and advice to improve your game and help you bring home the best shark images you possibly can. For those guests that are not bringing a camera, our trip leader will also share some of their images after the expedition.
Safety is our priority:
There is an element of risk with all wild animal encounters, but we run well planned, well executed shark dives. Consequently, we have a perfect safety record. No one has ever been harmed by a shark on one of our trips.
We leave from Florida:
Our trips start and finish in West Palm Beach, Florida (rather than the Bahamas) because it is much more convenient (and usually cheaper) for most guests to reach the boat. However, if you prefer to be picked up and/or dropped off in the Bahamas, we can do that too on our way to Tiger Beach from Florida.

Everyone talks about a destination being ‘the best shark dive’ or ‘one of the world’s top ten shark dives’ etc, etc. Sometimes the operators are just blowing smoke and sometimes the diving is truly great.
Whatever you hear about other shark diving sites around the planet, Tiger Beach stands alone. It’s simply packed with sharks. They’re big and they are not shy 🙂
If you are looking for endless photographic opportunities or if you just want to spend your entire vacation surrounded by big sharks, then this is the place.
I have NEVER heard of anyone being disappointed by Tiger Beach. The only problem you’ll have is finding somewhere to go next time that compares!

I have been on 3 Big Fish Expeditions trips by now and have more trips to look forward to in the near future. First of all I share a big passion for sharks, whale and other big marine life and Big Fish Expedition is all about that. As an amateur photographer is great to be among equals and even better to get new tips and ideas from professionals.
Andy is very helpful showing new tricks and talk about UW photography in between dives. Sure the destinations offers world class diving but it’s also about the people and the relation to people and Andy surely gives everyone the feeling of being very welcome and try to give everyone a lifetime experience.
Another good thing is that Andy is maybe the only pro shooters who offers trips to very reasonable prices. I won’t go into details about all the good dives I’ve done with Big Fish but instead say GO, you will never regret it!
