South African Sardine Run Diving Expedition 2024
It’s been a busy season at Big Fish Expeditions with back-to-back trips this summer. Here are some shots and a short video of some of the encounters from this year’s run. Enjoy!
South Africa’s Wild Coast is aptly named. If you’re looking for a wild adventure, this trip is for you. Zodiacs emerge each day at the mouth of the river into powerful seas that bring up an amazing variety of life. From humpback whales, right whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and the sardines to a variety of sharks including copper sharks and even shortfin mako.
This year, our mouths dropped open when we saw a shortfin mako leap out of the water like a pinwheel. It is a wild and crazy destination in which you feel thoroughly connected to and at the mercy of what the ocean brings.
This was one of our first years in our new lodge, which we loved. We had the most amazing chef and loved the spacious accommodations with a remarkable view of the river. We left tired, having worked hard during South Africa’s winter to encounter this fast-paced gamble.
